Myles Baker Earns Spot on NEC Men's Basketball All-Rookie Team
The league announced the all-conference honorees on the eve of the league's postseason tournament.
Freshman Myles Baker was named to the Northeast Conference All-Rookie Team it was announced by the league office on Tuesday. The awards were announced on the eve of the Northeast Conference Tournament Quarterfinals.
Baker hit his stride for the Blue Devils in conference play. He ranked second on the team, scoring 8.8 points per game in NEC games. In 18 contests he played 20.4 minutes per game off the bench and added 2.6 rebounds while shooting 82.5 percent from the foul line.
In 27 games overall, Baker scored 8.6 points per game, while playing 21.2 minutes. The Blue Devils had four freshman play more than 19 minutes per game, including Baker. He shot 33.6 percent from the three-point arc and 78.0 percent from the foul line. Baker added 2.6 rebounds per game along with 32 assists and 19 steals.
Baker scored in double-figures in 10 games, including three of the last four contests he played in to end the season. He turned in a career-best performance against Bryant on Feb. 15 in a 75-70 win. In 22 minutes off the bench he poured in 24 points and shot 9-of-13 overall, including 5-of-7 on three-pointers. His personal 8-0 run midway through the second half erased a Bryant lead and gave CCSU the lead for good.
In addition the league announced its three all-conference teams and all-rookie squad, and the major award winners. Isaiah Blackmon of Saint Francis U was named the Player of the Year, while the regular-season champion Merrimack had head coach Joe Gallo and senior Juvaris Hayes named Coach of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, respectively.
