Mount Tops Men's Hoops on Saturday
The Blue Devils honored former head coach Bill Detrick's family at halftime
The Central Connecticut men's basketball team fell to 3-22 overall and 1-11 in Northeast Conference play with a 63-46 loss at home to Mount St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon. The game was tied at the half but the Mount scored the first 15 points of the second half to claim the victory.
Senior Faronte Drakeford led the way with 14 points and nine rebounds for the Blue Devils in the loss. Sophomore Matt Mobley added 13 points including a pair of threes.
The game was tied 32-32 at halftime after Mobley hit three free-throws when he was fouled taking a three as time expired. The Blue Devils hit 3-of-6 from three in the half, but wouldn't make a three the rest of the game. They missed their first 10 shots of the second half and fell behind by 15.
While the Blue Devils were struggling to score, the Mount rattled off 15 straight points to take a 47-32 lead with just over 10 minutes to play in the half. Their lead would reach as much as 19 in the frame as they moved to 11-12 overall and 7-5 in league play with the victory.
Chris Martin led the Mount with 16 points while Junior Robinson had 13 and a pair of assists. The Mount finished 11-of-22 from three in the game and had 15 assists on 25 baskets. They turned the ball over only three times in the win.
Central finished the game with just three assists on its 16 baskets. They were 16-of-56 from the field (28.6 percent) in the game and 3-of-12 from three. They did outrebound the Mount 41-35 led by nine from Drakeford and eight from junior Brandon Peel.
Drakeford had 15 and nine to lead CCSU. Mobley had 13 but was just 3-of-10 from the field.
Central will return to action next week with their annual trip to Western Pennsylvania. They will play at St. Francis U on Thursday night followed by a trip to Robert Morris on Saturday.
