Men's Hoop Falls at Home to League-Leader St. Francis Brooklyn
Central will host Mount St. Mary's on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
The Central Connecticut men's basketball team dropped to 3-21 overall and 1-10 in Northeast Conference play with a 90-81 home loss to St. Francis Brooklyn on Thursday night. The Blue Devils were led by sophomore Matt Mobley who posted his third career 30 point game and finished with 31 points, just one shy of his career-high.
Senior Faronte Drakeford posted his fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and 12 rebounds.
St. Francis Brooklyn was led by senior Jalen Cannon who posted a career-high 35 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the double-double.
The Terriers are now 15-9 overall and 9-2 in league action with the victory.
St. Francis scored 57 second half points and shot 19-of-37 after halftime to win their ninth league game of the season. They were 32-of-65 from the field in the game, good for 49.2 percent and hit 11-of-21 from three.
The Blue Devils were 27-of-63 from the field and just 12-of-29 after halftime. Mobley hit 7-of-10 from three and as a team the Blue Devils were 8-of-15. The two teams combined for only 14 turnovers in the game. Central had only six and dished out 11 assists.
Cannon led all scorers with 35 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. He had 28 points and 10 boards in the second half. The Terriers outrebounded the Blue Devils 43-35 in the game, including 17 offensive rebounds that led to 19 second chance points.
The Blue Devils led 51-50 with 13:33 left in the second half before the Terriers used a 9-0 run to build a 59-51 lead just two minutes later. The run would reach 17-4 over a span of 4:10 and the lead was 67-55 for the Terriers. Central would climb within six with 2:20 to play but St. Francis would hold on for the nine-point victory.
Mobley's 31 led the Blue Devils. Drakeford had 18 and 12 for the double-double, and junior Brandon Peel ended the game with 13 points and seven rebounds.
The Blue Devils will return to action on Saturday afternoon hosting Mount St. Mary's at 3:30 p.m. in Detrick Gym.
