Men Drop Conference Opener to Wagner
Blue Devils host St. Francis U on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Central Connecticut men's basketball team dropped to 4-10 overall and 0-1 in Northeast Conference play with an 88-69 home loss to Wagner in the league opener for both teams on Thursday night. Sophomore Brandon Peel led the offense with 11 points. Junior Malcolm McMillan added 10 points, six rebounds and five assists.
Wagner hit 10-of-12 threes in the first half and climbed out to a 48-32 lead at the break. They shot 17-of-32 from the field before halftime while the Blue Devils were just 10-of-23. Wagner assisted on 10 of its first half baskets.
In the second half the Seahawks stretched the lead to as much as 31 as Central struggled from the field, hitting 8-of-29 and committing 20 turnovers in the game. Central was 4-of-16 from three and 18-of-52 from the field.
McMillan had 10 points, including 6-of-10 from the line, while grabbing six boards to go along with five assists and a pair of steals. Freshman Matt Mobley had 10 points and a pair of threes. Peel added 11 points and six rebounds in 33 minutes.
Wagner was led by Marcus Burton who had 18 points and three threes. Jay Harris added 14 while Orlando Parker and Latif Rivers each had 11. The Seahawks are now 7-7 overall and 1-0 in NEC action.
The Blue Devils are in action again on Saturday at home hosting St. Francis U in Detrick Gym at 1 p.m.
