Bio

Joe Castellitto joined the CCSU coaching staff prior to the 2019 season. With the Blue Devils he coaches the outside linebackers.

In Castelitto's first season, the Blue Devils finished with an 11-2 record and won the Northeast Conference title with a perfect league record. Central earned the league's automatic bid to the FCS playoffs and finished the season ranked #22 in the FCS Top 25. Castellitto coached Tre Jones who earned All-NEC First Team and led the team in sacks. He also coached Foday Jalloh who was named All-NEC Second Team and led the team in tackles. Castellitto helped the Blue Devil defense finish first in the nation in run defense, third in total defense, first in interceptions and first in turnover margin. 

Castellitto spent the spring of 2019 coaching inside linebackers at Western Connecticut State University. 

Prior to his time at Western Connecticut he began his coaching career at Utica College as a graduate assistant where helped the team to a win the Scotty Whitelaw Bowl over Ithaca College in 2018. Castellitto coached the inside linebackers and helped a pair earn posteason honors; Antonio Scala (First Team All-Conference) and Kwasi Addo (Second Team All-Conference). Addo and Scala finished first and second in tackles on the team.  

A four-year leadership council member for the Pioneers as an undergraduate he played multiple positions on Utica College's defense and special teams. Castellitto was Empire 8 All-Academic team in 2015, 2016 and 2017. He completed one semester with a 4.0 GPA.  

Castellitto, originally from Mahopac, New York earned a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science and a master's degree in Special Education at Utica College. Castellitto was a three-sport captain in football, baseball, and wrestling, the only three-sport captain in the decade at Mahopac High School.
