Football Earns National Ranking, CCSU Ranked 25th in STATS FCS Poll Released on Monday
CCSU is ranked in the Stats FCS Top-25 for the first time since Oct. 9, 2006
For the first time since Oct. 9, 2006, the Central Connecticut football team is making an appearance in the STATS FCS National Top-25, it was announced on Monday. The Blue Devils, who have been receiving votes in the poll throughout the season, come it at #25 this week with 274 votes. CCSU is 5-1, with a nations-best four road wins and a perfect 5-0 record vs. FCS opponents this season. The Blue Devils are coming off a 24-14 road win over Columbia last Saturday.
The Blue Devils are also receiving votes in the FCS Coaches Poll on Monday. CCSU received 30 votes, narrowly missing out on the 25th spot in the poll.
The Blue Devils started the season 3-0 before dropping a 34-29 decision on the road at FBS-member Eastern Michigan on Sept. 21. Central rebounded with a pair of road wins at Sacred Heart (28-3) and Columbia (24-14) to move to 5-1 on the year.
The four road victories match Villanova's four road wins as the most in the country this season. Central has wins at Fordham, Valparaiso, Sacred Heart and Columbia, and a home victory over Merrimack. The 5-1 start for CCSU matches its best start since the 2009 when they started 7-1.
