McInerney Named to NCAA Champions Forum

Central Connecticut's Jeff McInerney was one of 11 football coaches from past NCAA Expert Coaches Academies named to the NCAA Champions Forum alongside a group of current athletics directors. The forum was designed in an effort to bring minority football coaches closer to the mindset of athletics directors who ultimately hire head football coaches.

Mallory Named CDS Preseason FCS All-American

Central Connecticut running back James Mallory was recently named a 2009 Preseason FCS All-American by Consensus Draft Services. Mallory, who totaled 1,520 yards in an award-filled junior season, received honorable mention status heading into his senior campaign.

Blue Devil Football Set to Play Blue-White Spring Game Friday Afternoon

Central Connecticut football will plays it annual Blue-White Spring Game this afternoon. Beginning at 2 p.m., the Blue Devils will take to Arute Field for the afternoon activities. Head coach Jeff McInerney will emcee the from field level before the game. He will announce the 2009 spring award winners prior to kickoff.

CCSU's Annual Blue-White Spring Game Ends in 31-31 Tie, Dorsey Named MVP

The Central Connecticut football team played its annual Blue-White Scrimmage on Friday afternoon. The game ended in a 31-31 tie. Junior Marcus Dorsey earned MVP honors after intercepting two passes and recovering a fumble. All three plays led to points. Dorsey became the first defensive player to win the award under head coach Jeff McInerney. Junior quarterback Hunter Wanket and sophomore running back Kevin Woolfolk led the offenses. Wanket went 17-of-25 for 204 yards and a touchdown through the air. He also had a 49-yard touchdown run. Woolfolk, meanwhile, had a two-yard touchdown run set-up by a 55-yard scamper. CCSU, which has three more practices scheduled, will end its spring season on May 1.

Central Connecticut Football Releases Full Spring Schedule; Open Mac Included

Central Connecticut released its full spring football schedule this afternoon. The Blue Devils will begin their spring season on Friday, Apr. 3 and end on Friday, May 1. The annual Blue-White Game has been moved from May 1 to Friday, Apr. 24 to coincide with the date of the CCSU Athletics Alumni Hall of Fame ceremony. This has been the tradition during head coach Jeff McInerney's tenure. Festivities will still begin at 2 p.m. on Arute Field.

Central Connecticut Reveals 2009 Football Schedule

Fourth-year head coach Jeff McInerney and the Central Connecticut football team released its 2009 schedule this afternoon. It includes the program's first-ever game against an Ivy League opponent, and match-ups with teams from the Patriot League and Colonial Athletic Association. All games will played on Saturdays.

2009 SIGNING DAY - Blue Devil Football Class Announced, Open Mac Included

Central Connecticut head football coach Jeff McInerney announced his list of signees on Wednesday afternoon. McInerney and his staff will welcome a group of 12 players to the 2009 Blue Devils, 10 of whom signed National Letters of Intent to attend Central Connecticut starting in the fall. The remaining two players have enrolled at CCSU for the spring semester and will participate in spring practice. Central Connecticut finished 7-4 overall last season and 4-3 in Northeast Conference play.

Mallory Collects FCS All-New England Honors

Central Connecticut junior running back James Mallory was named to this year's FCS All-New England team as selected by the New England Football Writers. Mallory totaled 1,520 yards on the season, averaging 138.18 yards per game for the Blue Devils. Named to the All-Northeast Conference second team earlier this week, Mallory ranks fourth in the nation in rushing.

Blue Devil Football Places Six Representatives on All-Northeast Conference Teams

Central Connecticut had six selections on the All-Northeast Conference teams, as announced this afternoon by the league. Junior Ray Saunders and sophomore Alondre Rush were both named first team honorees, while senior captain Mike Cooke, senior Ernie Greywacz, junior James Mallory and sophomore Dominique Rose all represented the Blue Devils on the second team. Greywacz, a first team selection last season, was the only repeat pick. Central Connecticut finished the season at 7-4, including 4-3 in NEC play.

Lomax and Saunders Earn Northeast Conference Weekly Honors for CCSU

Central Connecticut collected a pair of Northeast Conference weekly football honors following its 49-14 season-ending win over in-state rival Sacred Heart. Junior Ray Saunders earned NEC Co-Defensive Player of the Week accolades, while freshman London Lomax was tabbed NEC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Mallory Eclipses 1,500-Yard Mark, Scores Twice in Season-Ending Win at Sacred Heart

Junior James Mallory ran for 150 yards and two touchdowns to lead Central Connecticut (7-4, 4-3) in a 49-14 season-ending win at Sacred Heart (8-3, 4-3). Mallory went over the 1,500-yard mark on the season, finishing his junior campaign with 1,520 yards. Senior Josh Vargas and sophomore Eric Richardson each added two rushing touchdowns for the Blue Devils, who totaled a season-best 337 yards on the ground. Sophomore Jeff Marino and junior Ray Saunders led the CCSU defense. Both had eight tackles, including a sack apiece. Marino added one of three Blue Devil interceptions, and Saunders forced two fumbles.

Rose Adds ECAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week Honor for Two-Interception Effort

One day after being selected Northeast Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week, Central Connecticut sophomore defensive back Dominique Rose was awarded ECAC Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors. Rose intercepted two passes, returning one for a score, in a 36-0 Blue Devil win over St. Francis (PA). Rose, who leads CCSU with four interceptions on the season, added six tackles, including four solo stops, in the victory.

Rose Named Northeast Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week

Central Connecticut sophomore defensive back Dominique Rose earned Northeast Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week honors following his two-interception performance in a 36-0 Blue Devil win over St. Francis (PA). Rose, who leads CCSU with four interceptions on the season, made his first pick on the Red Flash's first possession of the second half. His took his second interception back 85 yards for a touchdown, the first of his career, on the first play of the fourth quarter. Rose also had six tackles, including four solo stops.

Mallory Rushes for 167, CCSU Scores Two Defensive Touchdowns in First Shutout Since 1998

Junior James Mallory ran for 167 yards and two touchdowns, and the defense scored two touchdowns to lead Central Connecticut (6-4, 3-3) in a 36-0 home win over St. Francis (PA) (0-9, 0-6). Sophomore Dominique Rose had two of five Blue Devil interceptions, including one he ran back 85 yards for a touchdown. Senior Ernie Greywacz, meanwhile, had a 21-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown in his final game on Arute Field. The shutout was Central Connecticut's first since a 12-0 home victory over St. Francis (PA) on Oct. 10, 1998. The win also assured CCSU of its fifth straight winning season.

Paul Returns Kickoff for Touchdown, Blue Devils Lose at Robert Morris

Sophomore Josue Paul returned a late kickoff for a touchdown, and junior James Mallory ran for 95 yards to lead Central Connecticut (5-4, 2-3) in a 27-14 Northeast Conference loss at Robert Morris (4-5, 3-2). Paul's 86-yard kickoff return for a score, the second of his career, accounted for the game's final points. Junior quarterback Hunter Wanket added a touchdown run for the Blue Devils. He carried the ball for 49 yards. Sophomore Jeff Marino led the CCSU defense with 12 tackles, including 3.5 for loss. One of those was a sack.
