Baseball Drops Doubleheader to Lehigh and Pitt on Sunday
The Blue Devils play Pitt on Sunday afternoon.
The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped a pair of games on Sunday at Sanford Memorial Stadium at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. Central fell to Lehigh, 3-2, in the opener and dropped the second game against Pitt in seven innings, 14-2. CCSU is now 2-5 on the season.
The Blue Devils are scheduled to host Hartford at home on Tuesday for their home-opener.
GAME ONE INFORMATION

KEY MOMENTS
- The Blue Devils opened the scoring in the fifth inning. Senior Chandler Debrosse and junior Jay Devito had back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners and an error on a groundball by junior TT Bowens brought in a run to make it 1-0.
- In the bottom of the inning, Tyler Schreiner homered to tie the game 1-1.
- CCSU went ahead in the seventh after Bowens hit a two-out single. Senior Buddy Dewaine followed with a ball to left field that was misplayed and allowed Bowens to score and make it 2-1.
- In the bottom of the eighth the Mountain Hawks pushed across two runs. Tony Gallo singled in a run and would score on a single by Casey Rother to make it 3-2.
- The Blue Devils put the game-tying run on third base with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, but were unable to score.
NOTES
- Freshman Anthony Mozzicato started and allowed one run in 7.0 innings. He struck out seven, while scattering five hits and walking one.
- Debrosse finished the day 3-for-5 with a run scored.
- Devito and Bowens each had two hits. Bowens scored a run and drove in another.

KEY MOMENTS
- The Blue Devils had a pair of singles in the top of the first inning, but Pitt would leave the runners stranded striking out the side.
- The Panthers scored all of their runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Riley Wash had a two-run homer in the fourth as part of a seven-run inning. Ron Washington, Jr. added a three-run double in the fifth as part of a five-run frame.
- Central got on the scoreboard in the sixth inning. Junior Peyton Stephens doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch. He scored on a single by sophomore James Dolaghan. Senior Chris Kanios would also score on a throwing error on the play to close out the scoring.
NOTES
- Freshman Dominic Niman made his first career start. He allowed just one run in 3.0 innings of work and struck out four, while walking two and allowing two hits.
- Central recorded seven hits in the game. Bowens recorded his third straight multi-hit game, while Stephens had a double and a run scored.
- Sophomore Tim Buchek tossed 1.1 shutout innings in relief. He didn't allow a hit, while striking out three and walking two.
