Baseball Falls at UConn on Friday
The Blue Devils face Hartford at Dunkin' Donuts Park on Saturday morning.
The Central Connecticut baseball team fell at Connecticut, 6-1, on Friday at J.O. Christian Field in Storrs, CT. The Huskies accounted for five runs in the first three innings to build a lead it would not relinquish, while holding the Blue Devils to five hits on the afternoon.
Central falls to 7-10 on the season with the loss, while UConn improved to 14-9 overall.
The Blue Devils face Hartford at Dunkin' Donuts Park on Saturday morning at 11:30 a.m.
Senior Mitch Guilmette and freshman Jeremy Sagun each collected two hits for CCSU. Guilmette drove in the lone run for the Blue Devils, driving in Sagun.
UConn took the lead with an unearned run in the first inning. The Huskies widened the lead with a three-run second inning. Back-to-back hits and then an RBI-groundout pushed the advantage to 4-0.
A solo homerun by Zac Susi to lead off the third gave the home team a five-run lead. UConn closed out its scoring with a run in the seventh inning.
The Blue Devils got into the scoring column in the eighth inning. Sagun led off with a walk and sophomore Chris Kanios followed with a single. A one-out walk to senior Dean Lockery would load the bases before Guilmette drew a walk to force a run in and make it 6-1.
Sophomore Brandon Fox started on the hill for CCSU and was charged with the loss. Sophomore Arik Sypher tossed 4.0 innings in relief and had four strikeouts, while sophomore Michael Delease threw a shutout inning of relief.
Mason Feole threw 7.0 shutout innings for the Huskies to get the win. Michael Woodworth went 3-for-3 at the plate, while Chris Winkel added two hits.
CCSU is back in action on Saturday when it will face Hartford at the Dunkin' Donuts Park, the home of the Hartford Yard Goats, at 11:30 a.m.
