Baseball Drops 3-0 Decision at St. John's
The two teams managed just one game due to the winter weather this weekend
Central Connecticut and St. John's had a four-game series scheduled for this weekend, prior to the arrival of the spring snowstorm on Friday. When the weekend was over, the two teams managed just one game, with the Red Storm coming out on top, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon.
Sophomore right Matt Blandino picked up the loss for the Blue Devils on the mound, moving to 1-1 on the season. Blandino allowed just three earned runs in six innings of work while striking out seven and giving up nine hits. His ERA is now 2.05 on the year.
Central managed just six hits in the loss, including two from junior Matt Martinez, who had a doubled. St. John's pitchers recorded 14 strike outs on the day.
Sophomore reliever Austin Salnitis pitched an inning of relief without allowing a run. Classmate Adam Neveski pitched the eighth inning without allowing a base runner.
St. John's scored one run in each the second, third and fourth inning off of Blandino. They move to 9-8 overall on the year.
Sophomore Franklin Jennings, junior Ian Glassman, freshman Ryan Costello and senior Bryan Rivera all added a single for the Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils will host Quinnipiac on Tuesday afternoon in New Britain. The game was moved from Hamden, due to unplayable field conditions on the Quinnipiac campus. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
