Northeastern Tops Baseball 5-2 on Monday
CCSU will host Holy Cross on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
The Central Connecticut baseball team dropped to 1-2 overall on the season with a 5-2 home loss to Northeastern on Monday afternoon. The Blue Devils were playing at home for the third straight day. They also have home games scheduled on Tuesday vs. Holy Cross and Wednesday vs. Hartford.
Northeastern improves to 6-7 overall with the victory.
Northeastern struck first with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning off of senior starter Dominic Severino. Cam Hanley plated the first run with an RBI groundout and a two-out infield single from Patrick Madigan scored the second.
Severino would retire nine of the next 10 batters before the Huskies scored their third run of the game in the top of the fifth inning. With one out in the inning Max Burt singled to center field to plate Nolan Lang who led off the inning with a single.
The Blue Devils cut the score to 3-1 with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Junior Matt Martinez led off the inning with a single and scored on an RBI single to right from freshman Dean Lockery.
Northeastern took a 4-1 lead on a sacrifice fly from Michael Foster in the top of the eighth inning.
The Blue Devils got a run back in the bottom of the inning. Freshman Nick Garland led off the inning with a double down the right field line. He went to third on a single from junior Ian Glassman and scored on a single from Severino, making it 4-2.
Northeastern added one in the top of the ninth to push the lead to 5-2.
The Blue Devils will host Holy Cross in a single nine-inning game on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. in New Britain.
