CCSU Athletics Contribute to Operation Christmas Child
CCSU athletics continued a long-standing tradition with former Director of Athletics Charles "C.J." Jones and Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child and delivered over 100 gift boxes on Thursday. Jones and the Athletics Department have participated in the annual event of giving for 16 years, collecting almost 2,000 boxes to gift during that time.
During the event's National Collection Week, Jones collected the boxes at CCSU, while members of CCSU Athletics and the cross country and track and field program helped deliver the gifts. The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to provide gifts to children in need around the world. Samaritan's Purse has collected gifts for Operation Christmas Child since 1993 when 28,000 boxes filled with gifts were sent to children in war-torn Bosnia. Every year since, Samaritan's Purse has collected shoebox gifts filled with toys, school supplies, and hygiene items for children around the world. Since 1993, more than 178 million children in more than 150 countries have received an Operation Christmas Child shoebox.
