Bio

Head coach Dave Kelly named Shane Recklet as the First Assistant Coach for the Blue Devils men's soccer program ahead of the 2020-2021 season.

Previously, Recklet was the assistant coach at the University of Bridgeport during the 2019-2020 season. While at Bridgeport, he helped the Purple Knights compile an overall record of 11-5-1, finishing second in the league and advancing to the ECC Conference Championship game for this first time since 2011. At Bridgeport, Recklet was part of the staff that saw head coach Peter Doneit named the 2019 ECC Coach of the Year. He worked with eight All-ECC Conference honorees, including a pair of All-Region recipients and the 2019 ECC Goalkeeper of the Year.

Recklet has been coaching in Connecticut since 2015 at the US Developmental Academy for Beachside Soccer Club where he has helped develop youth national team players, as well as, take multiple teams to the USSDA playoffs. He served as an assistant coach at his alma mater, Quinnipiac University, from 2015-2016. In 2020, Shane joined the staff at Oakwood Soccer Club, which competes in the MLS Elite Youth Academy League. He has most recently received his United States Soccer Federation "A" License. 

Recklet is a 2006 graduate of Shelton High and went on to play for Quinnipiac University. He debuted for the Bobcats during his freshman year as a central defender and became a four-year starter. He was named captain following his sophomore season. During his four-year career at Quinnipiac, he received multiple All-Conference and All-Region team selections as both a central defender and central midfielder.

Following his collegiate career, Recklet went on to sign his first professional contract with Germania Schoeneiche, which competes in the Oberliga in Germany. He spent two seasons with the club, and was named captain of his club after just his first season. In 2012, Recklet was recruited and signed his next professional contract with VFC Plauen, which competes in the Regionalliga Nordost in Germany. Recklet went on to sign with Hungarian club, Vasas SC, during the 2013-2014 season and made 22 starts for the club in his first season.
