Rafter Named USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week
Central Connecticut senior Angie Rafter was named USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Women National Athlete of the Week it was announced on Monday. Rafter has been having a strong season and picked up her third win of the fall at the CCSU Mini-Meet on Friday.
Rafter won the home event after covering the 3k distance in 9:30.8, nearly eight seconds faster than the runner-up and well ahead of the 87 other women in the race. This is the first time in program history that an athlete from Central Connecticut has been named National Athlete of the Week during the cross country season.
Other victories for Rafter this season included the season-opening Marist Invitational and the Ted Owen Cross Country Invitational in late September. Rafter also finished fifth at the NEICAAA Cross Country Championships at Franklin Park in Boston.
Rafter and the Blue Devils will run at the Northeast Conference Championships on Saturday. The races will be held at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, with the men running at 11:00 a.m. and the women running at 12:00 p.m.
