Cross Country Hosts 15th Annual CCSU Mini Meet on Friday
The men's varsity 5K will begin at 3:30 p.m. followed by the women's 3K at 4:00 p.m.
The Central Connecticut men's and women's cross country teams will entertain 27 others colleges and universities on Friday, October 20 in its 15th CCSU Mini Meet at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, CT. The men's side will kick off race day in the sub varsity 5K at 3:00 p.m. followed by the varsity race at 3:30 p.m. The female varsity 3K run will begin at 4:00 p.m. and the meet will conclude with the women's sub varsity race at 4:30 p.m.
Joining the Blue Devils to compete at Stanley Quarter on both the men's and women's sides are Army Prep, Boston College, Bryant, Concordia, Dartmouth, Essec CC, Fairfield, Fairleigh Dickinson, Hartford, Holy Cross, Manhattanville, Monmouth, New Hampshire, Newbury, Northeastern, Providence, Quinnipiac, Rhode Island, Sacred Heart, Siena, St. Francis Brooklyn, St. Peters, Stony Brook, Massachusetts, UMass Lowell and Yale.
Last year at the Mini Meet, the mens' team came up just short of winning after coming in second place overall. Junior Austin Trainor came in fourth place with a 5K course time of 15:11.57 and junior Alex Norstrom clocked in at 15:34.15 in 23rd place.
The women's team finished ninth last season led by senior Brittany Mendelson who finished the 3K race in 10:27.35 in 11th place. The two-time Northeast Conference Individual Champion, Mendelson will set forth in her first competition of the year on Friday to tune up for the NEC Cross Country Championships next Saturday, Oct. 28 back at Stanley Quarter Park.
Another runner to watch is junior Madeline Mondo who also had a quality showing last year as she was second in for Central with a time of 10:45.96.
