Volleyball Honored With AVCA Team Academic Award
The Central Connecticut volleyball team was recognized with the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT for the 2023-24 season it was announced this week. The Blue Devils have earned the team academic honor for 18 consecutive seasons, which is the sixth-longest active streak in Division I. The team also earned the additional distinction of AVCA Team Academic Honor Roll, representing the top 20% of GPAs nationally by division
"We are pleased that the record-setting success of the 2023-24 season on the court has extended to the classroom, too, as evidenced by more programs earning the AVCA Team Academic Award than ever before," says AVCA CEO Dr. Jaime Gordon. "This is a great example of how committed our coaches are when it comes to helping their players reach their full potential as both students and athletes."
"It is a tremendous honor for our program to be recognized for their continued academic achievement," CCSU head coach Alyssa Broccoli said. "It is a testament to our student-athletes' dedication to be recognized year after year. We look forward to continuing the standard of academic success."
More than 1,400 collegiate and high school volleyball programs maintained a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale), to earn the award for their classroom excellence during the recently completed academic year.
The Blue Devils had 13 student-athletes named to the Northeast Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll, including 11 named to the NEC Commissioner's Honor Roll for a 3.75+ GPA. The volleyball team has posted the highest team GPA among all programs at CCSU in each of the last two years.
