Volleyball Falls to Cal, Army West Point on Saturday
CCSU will host NJIT on Tuesday night.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team dropped a pair of matchups on Saturday at the Army Invitational in West Point, NY. CCSU fell to Army West Point and Cal by 3-0 scorelines in both matches. Weronika Poczynek was named to the All-Tournament Team following the weekend.
The Blue Devils host NJIT in their home opener on Tuesday night.

KEY MOMENTS
- Central would lead throughout much of the first set. A kill by Isabelle Roufs gave the Blue Devils a 13-9 lead and forced a Army West Point timeout. The Black Knight came storming back and would close within, 17-16, making the Blue Devils take a timeout. Army would extend its run to six straight and went ahead, 19-17. CCSU leveled the set at 21-all, but Army would outscore the visitors 4-1 from there to go ahead in the match.
- Army raced out to an 11-4 lead in the second set and pushed the lead to 19-10 before Central used its second timeout of the frame. CCSU was unable to get closer than 23-12 the rest of the way.
- The Blue Devils were within, 7-4, in the third set after a kill by Roufs. Army would score seven unanswered points to take the lead for good. Following a timeout, down 22-8, CCSU would score three straight points t o build momentum, but the Black Knights would close the match out with a 25-14 win.

25 – CCSU finished with 25 kills as a team.
NOTES
- The teams were meeting for the second time since 2016, with Army taking both matchups.
- Mia Lombardo had eight kills to lead the Blue Devils for the second straight match. She added two block assists.
- Larissa Heimer had 15 assists and four digs.
- Lauren Milani finished with 10 digs.

- Cal led throughout the opening set although the Blue Devils would get within 6-5 after a kill by Louise Lion. CCSU was within 14-10 before the Bears would run off five straight points to go ahead, 19-10. Central would cut the deficit to 21-15, but Cal would win the set 25-18.
- The teams went back and forth in the early part of the second set and a kill by Weronika Pczynek tied it at 7-7. Cal would score four in a row and take the lead for good and did not allow CCSU to score back-to-back points.
- Cal would take a 12-5 lead in the third set, forcing a CCSU timeout. CCSU would score consecutive points on a kill by Poczynek and a service ace by Lauren Milani, but the Bears would close out the set for a win in the match.
