Volleyball Recognized with AVCA Team Academic Award
The Blue Devils have achieved the team academic honor for 14 consecutive seasons.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association Team Academic Award for the 2019-20 season it was announced by the organization on Monday. The Blue Devils have achieved the team academic honor for 14 consecutive seasons, which is the sixth-longest active streak in Division I.
"I am so proud of how our team, year in and year out, demonstrates a high level of academic success," CCSU head coach Linda Sagnelli said. "They continue to set the standard for future CCSU volleyball teams to reach."
The AVCA recognized an all-time high 1,313 teams across all levels, including 227 NCAA Division I programs. The AVCA Team Academic Award was instituted in 1992-93 to honor collegiate and high school volleyball teams that maintained at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
The Blue Devils had 11 student-athletes named to the Northeast Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll, including eight named to the NEC Commissioner's Honor Roll for a 3.75+ GPA. The team had a department-best 3.76 GPA during the spring semester. CCSU posted a 15-15 record and advanced to the league championship game after upsetting top-seeded Robert Morris in the semifinals. Ashlyn Eisenga was the league's Defensive Player of the Year and was one of four CCSU student-athletes to earn All-NEC recognition.
