Volleyball Tripped Up at Yale on Saturday
The Blue Devils open the Fairfield Invitational against Harvard on Friday.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team fell at Yale, 3-0, on Saturday in the Battle of Connecticut. The Bulldogs swept the match by scores of 25-22, 25-22, 27-25. Senior Raquel Quirarte had a double-double for CCSU with 14 kills and 10 digs.
Central slips to 2-5 on the season, while Yale improves to 2-0 overall.

Junior Erin McDermott narrowly missed adding a double-double with 20 assists and nine digs, while sophomore Emma Henderson had a team-high 14 digs. Senior Kaitlyn Kushman had 13 assists, while sophomore Nicole Kramer had six blocks.
In the opening game, the teams went back-and-forth with neither holding a lead of more than two points. The Blue Devils held a late 21-20 edge, but Yale came back with three straight points and while a kill by junior Madelyn Kaprelyan interrupted the Bulldogs' run, the hosts would close the set out after taking advantage of two CCSU errors.
Yale would buld an 11-7 lead in the second game, but an 8-1 run by CCSU would turn the tide. Henderson would serve back-to-back aces and an error by Yale would give the Blue Devils a 15-12 lead. Central led 22-19 before the Bulldogs managed to close the game strong by scoring the final six points to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
CCSU would get within 10-9 midway through the third game before a 6-1 run by Yale put the hosts in control. Trailing by five points, the Blue Devils would rally and use a 7-2 run to tie the match at 22-22 after a kill by Quirarte and an ace from sophomore Eline van Heijningen. The teams traded points and were tied 25-25 before Yale ended the match by scoring the final two points.
Kaprelyan was named to the Battle of Connecticut All-Tournament Team.
CCSU will stay in Connecticut next weekend, opening the Fairfield Invitational on Friday, Sept. 7, against Harvard.
