Eline van Heijningen named Molten/NEC Rookie of the Week
The Blue Devils went 2-0 last weekend.
Central Connecticut freshman Eline van Heijningen was named the Molten/Northeast Conference Volleyball Rookie of the Week it was announced by the league office on Monday. van Heijningen helped Central to wins over Sacred Heart and Fairleigh Dickinson as the Blue Devils improved to 10-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
The Netherlands native hit a team-best .500 and averaged a healthy 1.22 blocks per set in two conference wins for the Blue Devils. She set new career-bests with seven kills and seven blocks in CCSU's five-set win over Sacred Heart on Friday. In that match, the Blue Devils set a program-record with 23 total blocks as a team. She followed that up by hitting .556 with four blocks in a 3-1 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday. van Heijningen and the Blue Devils currently rank 27th nationally in blocks/set (2.66).
Central returns home on Friday, Oct. 13, to host Saint Francis U in a 7:00 p.m. match.
