Volleyball Downed at Bryant on Friday
The Blue Devils return to action at Sacred Heart on Oct. 6
Central Connecticut fell, 3-1, at Bryant in Northeast Conference volleyball action on Friday night. Senior Maddie Smith led CCSU with 12 kills, but the Blue Devils fell to 8-6 overall on the season and 1-2 in NEC play.
Central will be back in action on Friday, October 6, at Sacred Heart.
The Bulldogs took the match, 3-1 (25-20, 22-25, 25-15, 25-23), to remain undefeated in league play at 3-0 and improve to 12-8 overall.
Smith had 12 kills and was the only Blue Devil to reach double-figures. She added three blocks. Sophomore Erin McDermott had 18 assists, while junior Kaitlyn Kushman added 17 assists. Senior Lindsey Massicotte had a match-high 23 digs.
The Bulldogs used a late 5-0 run in the first set to build a 20-13 cushion on their way to taking the opening frame.
The Blue Devils rebounded in the second set and erased an early deficit, using a run of five unanswered points to go ahead 12-10. Central would close the set on a 5-1 run and even the match on a kill by sophomore Morgan Woycik to win the set.
The teams traded runs to open the third set. The set was tied 9-9 before Bryant would take control by outscoring CCSU, 13-3, en route to taking the set 25-15.
Central led by as much as 15-9 in the fourth set and held a 21-17 edge late into the frame. The Bulldogs came back with six straight points to take the lead and eventually close out the match.
CCSU travels to Sacred Heart on Friday, Oct. 6.
