Smith, Massicotte Earn Molten/NEC Volleyball Weekly Honors
The Blue Devils went 2-1 at the Hartford Invitational last weekend.
Seniors Maddie Smith and Lindsey Massicotte each collected a Molten/Northeast Conference weekly volleyball award it was announced by the league on Monday. Smith was named the Player of the Week, while Massicotte was named co-Defensive Player of the Week. The Blue Devils won a pair of matches at the Hartford Invitational last weekend and have started the season 6-3.
Smith hit a team-high .500 on the weekend and averaged 2.82 kills per set and 1.82 blocks per set to earn a place on the All-Tournament team. In Friday's opener, she hit .588 with 10 kills and eight blocks in a four-set setback to Niagara. Smith posted a solid all-around performance in CCSU's sweep over Hartford on Saturday, tallying a team and season-high 12 kills, a season-high six digs and six blocks to go along with a .571 hitting percentage. The California native leads the Blue Devils this season in hitting (.408) and blocks (1.35), and ranks 40th and 33rd nationally in those categories, respectively.
Massicotte was named to the Hartford Invitational All-Tournament team after averaging 6.55 digs per set in a 2-1 weekend for the Blue Devils. The Meriden, CT, native recorded 20+ digs in all three matches, including 29 digs in a 3-1 win over NJIT on Saturday as she helped hold the Highlanders to a .128 hitting percentage. Massicotte averages a team-high 5.29 digs this season for the Blue Devils, which ranks 28th in the country. She has helped the Blue Devils rank seventh in the NCAA with 18.65 digs per set as a team.
