Schwab Named NEC Defensive Player of the Week
Blue Devils to face Sacred Heart in the NEC Tournament.
Senior Brooke Schwab of the Central Connecticut volleyball team was named Molten/Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week it was announced Monday. Schwab helped the Blue Devils split two matches last weekend and qualify for the NEC Tournament.
Schwab comes off an excellent defensive weekend for the Blue Devils, who split matches with Fairleigh Dickinson and NEC regular season champion Sacred Heart. In a five-set setback to the Pioneers on Sunday, Schwab recorded 13 blocks, an NEC single-match season-high and the second most in program history. The 13 blocks also marked the highest total by an NEC player since CCSU's Rachel Dunlap posted 14 - also against Sacred Heart - on November 9, 2013. She posted four blocks against Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday and averaged 2.12 blocks per set on the weekend.
This was Schwab's second Molten/NEC Defensive Player of the Week award of the year. She was also Molten/NEC Player of the Week on Aug. 28. Schwab leads CCSU with 1.20 blocks/set and has a team-best .303 hitting percentage.
Central earned the No. 4 seed in the Northeast Conference Tournament and will face top-seeded Sacred Heart on Saturday, Nov. 19, at 5:00 p.m. SHU will host the tournament after posting a 21-7 record overall and 13-1 in the NEC. CCSU handed the Pioneers their only NEC loss and owns a 14-12 record and 9-5 mark in the NEC.
The entire tournament will be streamed live at NECFrontRow.com.
