Volleyball Sweeps Fairleigh Dickinson, 3-0, Saturday
CCSU closes out the regular season at Sacred Heart on Sunday.
The Central Connecticut volleyball team won 3-0 at Fairleigh Dickinson in Northeast Conference action on Saturday in Hackensack, NJ. The win improved CCSU's record to 14-11 overall and 9-4 in the NEC, while FDU slips to 3-28 overall and 1-12 in the NEC.
Sophomore Raquel Quirarte and freshman Gala Galabova each had 10 kills to lead the Blue Devils who hit .304 as a team. Sophomore Kaitlyn Kushman had 19 assists and 11 digs, while freshman Erin McDermott added 19 assists. Junior Lindsey Massicotte finished with 12 digs and senior Rachel Fish had 11 digs.
Central built a 16-9 lead in the opening set and the Knights were unable to get closer than four points after that. CCSU scored the final three points of the set to win 25-17.
CCSU scored the first four points of the second set en route to building a 13-3 lead after a pair of kills by senior Brooke Schwab. The Blue Devils would score the final four points of the set and a kill by Schwab would close the set out at 25-9.
The Blue Devils scored four straight points to build a 6-3 lead in the final set and led the rest of the way. A kill by freshman Morgan Woycik closed the set out and gave CCSU the 3-0 win.
The Blue Devils will travel to Sacred Heart for a 4:00 p.m. match on Sunday to close out the regular season. The top four teams in the Northeast Conference standings will qualify for the postseason tournament.
