Volleyball Defeats St. Francis Brooklyn, 3-0, on Saturday
The Blue Devils host LIU Brooklyn on Sunday for Senior Day.
Central Connecticut defeated St. Francis Brooklyn, 3-0, in Northeast Conference volleyball action on Saturday at Detrick Gymnasium. The Blue Devils improved to 13-10 overall and 8-3 in NEC play.
Freshman Gala Galabova led CCSU with 10 kills, to go with three blocks. Senior Cassidy Stankowski, sophomore Raquel Quirarte and freshman Morgan Woycik each added nine kills. Freshman Erin McDermott had 19 assists with six digs, while sophomore Kaitlyn Kushman had 14 assists and four aces. Senior Rachel Fish had a match-high 11 digs. Senior Brooke Schwab finished with four total blocks.
Central took the lead early in the opening set, 3-2, and led throughout. Kushman would serve the final three points of the frame, including an ace on the final point to give CCSU a 25-16 win.
St. Francis led 2-1 in the second set before a kill by Woycik set up a run of 11 straight service points for McDermott. Following a block from Schwab and Galabova, Central took a 13-2 lead and would close the set out with four straight points served by Kushman, including the last three via ace. CCSU would win the set, 25-5.
CCSU led 17-12 in the third set before the Terriers scored five straight to tie it at 17-all. The set would be tied at 23-23 before consecutive kills from Woycik closed the set out, 25-23, and gave Central the 3-0 win in the match.
SFBK slips to 8-19 overall and 3-8 in the NEC. Domenique Gerard led the Terriers with 14 kills and Milica Mladjenovic had 11 assists.
Central hosts LIU Brooklyn on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. for Senior Day. CCSU will honor its graduating class prior to their final home match.
