Volleyball Drops First Conference Match of the Year at LIU Brooklyn
Blue Devils now 6-1 in NEC play this season
The Central Connecticut volleyball team dropped its first Northeast Conference match of the season, falling 3-1 on the road at LIU Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon. The Blue Devils are now 11-8 overall and 6-1 in league play this season.
LIU won the first set 25-22 before the Blue Devils responded in a strong way by winning the second set 25-18. The Blackbirds however, won the third set 25-23 and the fourth 25-15 to move to 8-12 overall and 5-2 in NEC play this season.
Freshman Morgan Woycik led the offensive attack with 12 kills in the match. Senior Brooke Schwab added nine kills while sophomore Kaitlyn Kushman had a team-high 24 assists to go along with nine digs.
The Blue Devils six-match winning streak was stopped with the loss but they end the first half of the conference season with a 6-1 mark. The second half of the season starts at home this weekend. The Blue Devils will play four of their final seven conference games at home.
Senior Rachel Fish led the defense with 19 digs, while junior Lindsey Massicotte added 15. Junior Maddie Smith had five blocks.
Central returns home next weekend, hosting Robert Morris (Saturday, 1 p.m.) and St. Francis U (Sunday, 3 p.m.) in Detrick Gym.
