Volleyball Moves to 3-0 in Northeast Conference Play With Win Over Bryant
Blue Devils are off until next Saturday when they host FDU
The Central Connecticut women's volleyball team moved to 8-7 overall and a perfect 3-0 in Northeast Conference play with a 3-0 home victory over Bryant on Friday night. The win is the third straight for the Blue Devils. They'll be off until next Saturday when they host Fairleigh Dickinson at 1 p.m.
The Bulldogs fall to 10-10 overall and 2-1 league play with the loss.
The two teams played a tight match throughout on Friday night, but the Blue Devils were able to remain unbeaten in conference play in their first home match in more than a month. Central won the first set 26-24 and then came from behind late in the second set to grab a 2-0 lead with a 27-25 win. They closed the sweep with a 25-21 win in set three.
Senior Cassidy Stankowski led the offensive attack with 10 kills and made just two errors in the match. Classmate Brooke Schwab added nine kills (and only one error) to go along with six blocks to help pace CCSU.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Kushman had 25 assists to go along with five digs. Junior Lindsey Massicotte helped pace the defense with 14 digs on the night. Senior Rachel Fish had a team-high 15 digs to go along with a service ace.
As a team the Blue Devils hit .211 with 44 kills and just 17 errors. They forced the Bulldogs into a .131 hitting percentage, including 27 errors. Central had 13 total blocks.
The Blue Devils are now off for a week until they host Fairleigh Dickinson next Saturday at 1 p.m. in Detrick Gym.
