Schwab, Woycik Earn Weekly NEC Volleyball Awards

Senior Brooke Schwab and freshman Morgan Woycik of the Central Connecticut volleyball team were named Molten/Northeast Conference Player of the Week and Co-Rookie of the Week, respectively, it was announced on Monday. The pair helped the Blue Devils go undefeated in three matches at the season-opening CCSU Invitational.
Schwab's opening weekend performance earned her a spot on the CCSU Invitational All-Tournament team and helped the Blue Devils to the tourney title with a perfect 3-0 record. The middle hitter finished the tournament with 2.0 kills and 1.5 blocks per set, while hitting .354 for the weekend. Schwab hit .381 with 10 kills against Lehigh and added eight kills and eight blocks against Fordham in Saturday's championship match. She finished the weekend with 18 total blocks as the Blue Devils recorded 44 as a team on the weekend.
Woycik had an outstanding opening weekend to begin her career, earning Tournament MVP honors as the Blue Devils swept the CCSU Invitational. She recorded a team-high 30 kills in three matches, averaging 2.31 kills per set. Woycik hit .279 for the weekend and added 1.54 blocks per set. She led the Blue Devils with 12 kills against Iona in her first collegiate match and finished with 10 kills and seven blocks in Saturday's 3-1 win over Fordham to clinch the championship for CCSU.
The Blue Devils are back in action this weekend in the Hartford Invitational. CCSU opens with Manhattan on Friday, Sept. 2, at 4:30 p.m. and will then face Rhode Island and Hartford on Saturday.
