Dana and Rawles Earn NEC Athlete of the Week Honors

After her record-breaking performance at the Penn Relays meet last week, Ashley Dana was named the NEC Track Athlete of the Week. Tamara Rawles was also recognized by the NEC after her standout efforts at the Blue Devil Invitational on Friday, earning Rookie of the Week honors. 

Dana represented the CCSU Women's Outdoor Track and Field team at the 127th running of the Penn Relays meet hosted by the University of Pennsylvania last Thursday. She competed in the College Women's 1,500m Championship placing 25th with a collegiate-best time of 4:25.05 to break the CCSU program record. Her performance ranks her first in the Northeast Conference standings for the women's 1,500m race by over ten seconds. 

Rawles won the 400m race at the Blue Devil Invite with a time of 57.42. This performance ranks her fourth in the Northeast Conference standings for the women's 400m dash. She was also a part of CCSU' first place finishing 4x100m relay, which crossed the finish line in 48.94. 

Dana and Rawles were also named as Prime Performers alongside their teammate Marina Perry. Perry won the hammer throw at the Blue Devil Invite, with a collegiate best 45.43m throw. She also took third in both the shot put (collegiate best – 12.09) and discus events (37.60m).  

CCSU will be back in action this weekend at the Northeast Conference Championships, hosted by Merrimack College in North Andover, MA.
