Women's Track & Field Wins Second Straight NEC Indoor Title

For the second time in as many seasons the Central Connecticut State women's track and field team won the Northeast Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Blue Devils built a day one lead and pulled away on Monday, totaling 149 points, 57 points clear of the runner-up Wagner. 

Angie Rafter captured the triple crown of distance running for the second year in a row, capturing gold in the mile, 3000m and 5000m and then added the top prize in the DMR. Those performances earned her, both for the second time, Most Valuable Performer and Most Outstanding Track Performer – Distance accolades. 

The Blue Devils point total is the highest for a winning team since 2016 and the largest margin of victory since 2013.

KEY TRACK PERFORMANCES 

• Kalesha Darisme placed fifth in the 60m dash, running 7.94 to get the first points of the day 

• Rafter led a dominant effort from the CCSU milers, winning the race at 5:03.36, as the Blue Devils took the top four spots 

• CCSU accrued 29 points in the mile, with Brooke Morabito, Ashley Dana and Maegan Desmarais, running away from the field with Rafter 

• Tamara Rawles and Magnalen Camara went 4-5 in the 400m to give CCSU nine points  

• Kamilah Diaz led the opening flight from wire-to-wire to earn fifth place in the 500m dash, and add four points to the team title standings 

• Dana added a silver medal to her haul in the 800m run, adding eight points to the team chase, with a run of 2:14.41 

• Magnalen Camara's PB of 25.15, good for silver led three Blue Devil finalists in the 200m final, with Tamara Rawles and Kalesha Darisme placing fifth and seventh respectively 

• The Blue Devils added 19 points in the 5000m as Rafter and Morabito again took the top two spots, with Kaitlyn Stevens placing eighth 

• A strong opening 1200m from Dana paced the Blue Devils to win in the DMR, as Desmarais, Morabito, and Rafter combined to finish off the victory in 12:14.54  

• Camara, Rawles, Diaz and Adriana Brathwaite finished off the championship performance with a third place showing in the 4x400 relay 

KEY FIELD PERFORMANCES 

• Aaliyah Walker picked up three points with a sixth-place finish in the triple jump, with an 11.40m effort 

• Marina Perry placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 11.99m
