Women's Indoor Track and Field Earns NEC Team Sportsmanship Honor
The Blue Devils were honored with the award for the second straight season.
The Northeast Conference announced the Winter Team Sportsmanship Awards for the winter seasons on Wednesday with Central Connecticut earning the honor for women's indoor track and field. The Blue Devils were honored with the award for the second straight season.
The awards were instituted by league Presidents in 2008 and are designed to acknowledge the team in each conference sport that, in the opinion of its peers, most closely demonstrates good sportsmanship based on the NEC Principles of Sportsmanship and Standards of Conduct. Voting is conducted at the conclusion of each season by each team and head coach, who rank teams within the conference based on a set of criteria.
"The NEC Council of Presidents are fully committed to the values of good sportsmanship and competing with integrity," said Noreen Morris, NEC Commissioner. "I'm proud to congratulate the coaches and student-athletes from these five institutions for being recognized by their peers as the teams that best epitomized those values."
The women's indoor track and field team earned back-to-back Sportsmanship Awards after placing sixth at the league's indoor championships. CCSU won five gold medals at the Indoor Track and Field Championships and had four individuals named All-Conference. Senior Megan Brawner and sophomore Angie Rafter led the honorees and were named Most Outstanding Track Performer (Distance).
