Women's Track Competes at John Thomas Terrier Classic
The Blue Devils challenged their largest field of competition this season, consisting of just under 1,500 student-athletes representing 80 universities.
The Central Connecticut women's track and field team continued its indoor season Friday at Boston Univeristy's John Thomas Terrier Classic at BU's Track and Tennis Center. The Blue Devils challenged their largest field of competition this season, consisting of just under 1,500 student-athletes representing 80 universities. The meet also featured hundred of post-collegiate athletes competing for a wide variety of club programs.
Sophomore Hailey Rospierski and junior McKenna Kilian recorded the top Blue Devil finishes for the day in the 60 meter hurdles and long jump. Rospierski came in 13th place with a time of 9.24 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles and Kilian also placed 13th in the long jump with a personal best leap of 5.28 meters.
Junior Sierra Nesmith had a solid run in the 400 meter dash, finishing in 58.06 seconds, good for 18th place out of 86 competitors. Freshmann Arianna Taft also ran in the event for Central and posted a time of 1:04.79.
Third year track and field distance specialist, Madeline Mondo rang in a new collegiate 3,000 meter run time of 10:10.28, claiming 34th place in the event.
Rookie Angie Rafter eclipsed a new personal best time in the 800 meter run of 2:20.49, placing 43rd overall.
The Blue Devils were led by freshman Megan Brawner in the 1,000 meter run, who placed 27th with a mark of 3:03.32. Junior Dawn Hubbell ran for CCSU in the 5,000 meter run taking 27th place after turning in a time of 17:47.04.
Sophomore Erica Snape led three other Blue Devils in the 200 meter dash with a time of 27.30 seconds. Senior Alleah Red ran a season best race of 27.42 and Rospierski was next in for CCSU with a time of 27.97. First year member Jaekwana Newton rounded out the 200 meter quartet, finishing in 28.35 seconds.
In the mile, senior Olivia Mondo and junior Morgan Ricci posted respective times of 5:27.64 and 5:42.36. The times mark new personal records for both Mondo and Ricci.
Central's 4x400 meter relay squad of Kilian, Brawner, Rafter and Rospierski took 20th in the standings with a group time of 4:12.64. Kilian cleared the 1.55 meter bar in the high jump, ending in an eight-way tie for 14th place.
The shot put event saw four Blue Devils, sophomore Valeria Hernandez (10.76m), junior Abrah Toomey (9.57m), freshman Celine Delice (8.64m) and freshman Abigail McNab (7.08m) in action. Toomey also finished in 34th place in the weight throw with a distance of 12.40m and Hernandez followed in 39th place iwth a throw of 11.93m.
The Central Connecticut women's track and field team will compete next Friday, February 2 at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in Boston, MA for the New England Championships.
