Four Personal Records Set, Women's Indoor Track and Field Coast at Wagner
Rospierski led the Blue Devils, winning the 60m hurdles with a collegiate best time of 9.07 seconds.
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team set five personal records in its first competition with the entire team of the season. The Blue Devils competed inside of Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex for the Wagner College Invitational in Staten Island, NY.
Sophomore Hailey Rospierski won the 60 meter hurdles on Friday in addition to setting a new personal record with a blistering time of 9.07 seconds. Junior Sierra Nesmith took sixth place in the event with a time of 9.35 seconds.
Rospierski earned a four-way tie for fourth place in the high jump after clearing the 1.60 meter mark. Junior McKenna Kilian also competed in the event to CCSU passing the 1.50 meter bar.
Nesmith excelled in the 400 meter dash with a fourth place finish with a time of 59.95 seconds.
Nesmith also took fifth place in the triple jump with a leap of 11.12 meters. Freshman Hannah Kelm posted a jump of 9.13 meters.
Junior Madeline Mondo recorded a college best 3,000 meter run time of 10:21.56 falling into sixth place to lead Central. Junior Dawn Hubbell followed shortly behind in 14th place with a time of 10:32.05. Senior Olivia Mondo, also ran in the 3K and finished the race in 11:17.29.
The mile run featured two CCSU runners, sophomore Megan Brawner and junior Morgan Ricci. Brawner placed 13th out of 67 total competitors, edging out her previous career best mile time of 5:17.44, with a new top time of 5:17.42. Ricci also ran her fastest mile time to date, 5:55.47.
Sophomore Valeria Hernandez and junior Abrah Toomey represented Central in the shot put and weight throw. Hernandez threw for 10.09 meters in the shot put good for 28th place, and Toomey launched a 9.51 meter throw right behind the sophomore in 29th place.
Junior McKenna Kilian took ninth out of 43 jumpers in the long jump to lead CCSU. Kilian leapt 5.05 meters. Rospierski tied for 16th place with a jump of 4.88 meters and rookie Hannah Kelm jumped 4.65 meters good for 27th place.
Second year Blue Devil, Erica Snape claimed fourth place overall in the 60 meter dash with a final mark of 7.93 seconds. Freshman Jaekwana Newton also ran in the 60m prelims, but didn't qualify after sprinting a time of 8.87.
Snape also placed 12th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.59 seconds.
CCSU freshman Angie Rafter coasted in at 2:26.49 in the 800 meter run and fellow classmate Kailyn Accetura crossed in at 2:55.39.
Sophomore Arianna Taft ran in the 500 meter dash and complete the race with a time of 1:34.99.
The women's 4x400 meter relay, comprised of Brawner, Rafter, Taft and Kilian, completed the race with a combined time of 4:19.53 in 15th place to round out a solid first team performance of the 2018 indoor season.
The Blue Devils pick back up on Saturday, January 13th where they will take part in the Yale Collegiate Invitational inside the Coxe Cage in New Haven, CT.
