Truman Scores Northeast Conference Weekly Honor on Tuesday
Senior Sherise Truman was declared the NEC Female Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.
With just one week away until the 2017 Northeast Conference Outdoor Championships the Central Connecticut women's track and field team engaged in one final tune-up last weekend at the UMass Pre-Conference Meet on Saturday, April 29. Amongst the Blue Devils' top performers was senior Sherise Truman who was acclaimed as the league's Female Track Athlete of the Week for her exceptional efforts at Amerst, MA.
Truman significantly improved her standing amongst NEC 100m leaders on Saturday. The Blue Devil veteran shaved nearly one-half second off her prior personal best, crossing the line in 12.20s. The performance, which earned her a bronze medal at UMass, catapulted Truman into second place on the conference's 100m seasonal leader board.
Only LIU Brooklyn's Shantae McDonald (12.14) owns a faster time than CCSU's senior sprinter. In what was her final tune-up prior to the NEC title meet, Truman also powered the Blue Devils' 400m relay team to a seasonal-best, league-leading time (47.30).
Truman will partake in her final NEC Outdoor Championships this weekend, May 6-7, at Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg, MD. The events will begin on Saturday at 8:45 p.m. with the 10,000 meter run. Check back later in the week on www.ccsubluedevils.com for updated championship info.
