Northeast Conference Proclaims Nesmith as Women's Track Athlete of the Week
Nesmith is currently the league's top contender in the 400 meter hurdles.
Second year Central Connecticut women's track and field member, Sierra Nesmith earned the team's first Northeast Conference nod of its 2017 campaign on Tuesday afternoon as announced by the league's front office. The reigning NEC indoor triple jump champion was honored as the Female Athlete of the Week for her outstanding performance at the Georgia Tech Invitational this past week.
Nesmith out-dueled CCSU teammate Melissa Wolliston at the Georgia Tech Invitational and retains her NEC lead in the 400m hurdles as a result. The sophomore set a personal record by clocking in at 1:01.55, finishing 10th overall in a highly-competitive field.
Beating the qualifying standard for the ECAC Championships by 1.49 seconds, Nesmith moved up to the No. 31 spot on the list of qualifiers for the regional meet. The sophomore hurdler also set a PR at the 100m distance during her trip to Georgia Tech.
Her 14.78 time currently ranks seventh overall on the NEC leader board.
The Central Connecticut women's outdoor track and field team will take flight again this Saturday, April 29 at the UMass Pre-Conference meet in Amherst, Mass. Check www.ccsubluedevils.com for updated meet information later in the week.
