Wolliston, Nesmith Show Out at Georgia Tech, Women's Track Tackles Princeton on Saturday

After setting new personal records in the 100 meter hurdles yesterday at the opening day of the Georgia Tech Invitational, sophomore Sierra Nesmith and junior Melissa Wolliston tackled another top mark in the 400 meter hurdles on Saturday, April 22 in Atlanta, GA. 

Nesmith shined with a time of 1:01.55 coming in 10th place overall, just .14 seconds behind Syracuse's Danielle Delgado in ninth place. The second year Blue Devil shaved .67 of a second off of her previous fastest time of 1:02.22 set at the 2016 ECAC Championships.

In similar fashion, Wolliston rang in her new collegiate best 400 meter hurdle mark at 1:02.66, topping the senior's old record of 1:02.75 recorded at the 2015 Northeast Conference Championships.

The Blue Devils' 4x100 meter relay team consisting of senior's Sherise Truman, Sara Hicks, and freshmen Erica Snape, and Wileshka Samuel, combined for a solid 47.91 finish in sixth place. Truman placed 13th in the 200 meter dash in a time of 25.52, and Snape finished in 26.99.

Out in the field, rookie Hailey Rospierski jumped 1.60 meter for CCSU to come in eighth. Fellow classmate Gianna D'Amato snagged 15th place in the javelin with a throw of 37.42 meters. The multifaceted Rospierski also ran a 15.51 time in the 100 meter hurdles.

Hicks also ran in the 100 meter hurdles and crossed the finish line at 14.88 in 18th place. Central's Snape, Samuel, and Truman finished on the heels of one another in the 100 meter dash, respectively. Snape led the trio with a time of 12.65, proceeded by Samuel at 12.66, and Truman came in at 12.67.

The Central Connecticut women's outdoor track and field team will round out its regular season schedule next Saturday, April 29 at the UMass Pre-Conference Meet at the unviersity's track and field complex in Amherst, MA prior to championship season. The 2017 Northeast Conference Outdoor T&F Championships on May 6-7 will be hosted by Mount St. Mary's in Emmitsburg, MD.
