The CCSU women's track and field team was predicted to finish tied for third at this year's NEC Track and Field Championships based on the 2017 Northeast Conference Coaches' Poll released by the league's front office via Twitter on Thursday afternoon.
The Blue Devils finished sixth at last year's championships ahead of Saint Francis PA, and just behind Mount St. Mary's. The Moutaineers will host the 2017 Northeast Conference Championships on May 6-7 in Emmitsburg, M.D.
The two-time defending NEC Outdoor Champions, Sacred Heart Pioneers, received nine first place votes to slot them on top of the preseason ballot. LIU Brooklyn was chosen to finish second with one first place vote. Fairleigh Dickinson shared the third place spot with CCSU, followed by Saint Francis U, Robert Morris, Mount St. Mary's, Wagner, Bryant, and St. Francis Brooklyn to round out the ten team poll.
The Blue Devils will be under the direction of the three-time (2014-16) Northeast Conference Coaching Staff of the Year, led by Eric Blake in his seventh year at the helm.
The men's outdoor track and field team's 2017 campaign will begin on April 1, as they host CCSU Blue Devil Invite in New Britain, CT. A full list of event times and heat sheets will be posted as soon as they become available for the meet.
