Mendelson Sets School Record, Women's Track Competes at John Thomas Terrier Classic Friday
Senior Brittany Mendelson sets Central Connecticut school record in the 3,000 meter run at Boston University on Friday.
Senior Brittany Mendelson set the Central Connecticut school record in the 3,000 meter run on Friday at the John Thomas Terrier Classic hosted by Boston University on Friday. The senior crossed the finish line at 9:57.86, grabbing 13th place overall while placing herself in the record books.
60 meter hurdles specialist, veteran, Melissa Wolliston, ran a preliminary time of 8:86 seconds that tied her for seventh place in the standings. Senior Sarah Hicks and sophomore Sierra Nesmith completed the race one after the other, taking 14th and 15th place, respectively.
Hicks sprinted a time of 9.06 and Nesmith clocked in at 9:16. Freshman Hailey Rospierski took 28th place with a time fo 9:42. The finals of the 60 meter hurdles were canceled.Freshman Megan Brawner ran a collegiate personal best time of 2:23.60 after winning the 13th heat.
Senior Sherise Truman bolted 60 meters in 8.03 seconds, good for a fifth place finish in heat three in the 60 meter dash. Nesmith was the lone Blue Devil to compete in the 400 meter dash, finishing in 57.65 in 19th place.
Junior Tayler Boncal grabbed second place honors in the third heat of the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:17.94. Boncal finished 13th overall. Three members of the women's track team tied for 13th place in the high jump. Clearing 1.60 meters was freshman Kadizha Benjamin, sophomore McKenna Kilian, and rookie Rospierski.
Second year Blue Devil Dawn Hubbell ran the 5,000 meter run in 17:56.47, marking a personal best time, and grabbing 31st place at the invitational. The CCSU 4x400 meter relay squad consisting of, Boncal, freshman Erica Snape, Wolliston, and Nesmith, guided themselves into 13th in the final standings after running a collective 3:57.42 time.
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track team returns to the competition field on Saturday, Feb. 4 at the URI Coaches Invite.
