Women's Track and Field Competes at Joe Donahue Invitational Friday
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team competed at the Joe Donahue Invitational at the historic Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center on Friday.
The Central Connecticut women's indoor track and field team competed at the Joe Donahue Invitational at the historic Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center on Friday. Melissa Wolliston continued her successful senior year by winning the 60 meter hurdle finals and tying her own school record with a time of 8.72.
Freshman Erica Snape competed in the 200 meter dash for the first time in her career, and finished in fourth place after sprinting a 25.59 time. Snape also took sixth in the 60 meter dash (8.01), and senior Sherise Truman crossed the finish line directly behind at 8.02 in seventh place in the finals.
Central Connecticut featured two top-five rankings from rookie Megan Brawner and senior Brittany Mendelson. Brawner clocked in a time of 2:24.53 (fifth place) in the 800 meter run, and Mendelson ran the one mile race 5:04.22 (fifth place). Senior Jazmin Booker also competed in the 800 finished two seconds behind Brawner at 2:26.01 (sixth place).
Junior Victoria Cronin was the lone Blue Devil representative in the 3,000 meter run, coming in 10th in the standings with a time of 10:44.82. Taylor Boncal's time of 1:18.51 notched her a sixth place spot in the 500 meter run event.
Rookie Hailey Rospierski jumped 1.61 meters setting a new personal record in the high jump, good for an eighth place finish. Sophomore Sierra Nesmith leaped 10.77 meters in the triple jump for CCSU.
The women's indoor track team will next take its talents back to Boston, Massachusetts on Friday, January 27 for the Boston University Terrier Invite.
