Rospierski, Latham Tab NEC Indoor Weekly Honors on Tuesday

Junior Tyler Latham, was named the Northeast Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week, and freshman Hailey Rospierski, shared the Northeast Conference Women's Co-Rookie of the Week honor, as announced Tuesday afternoon. The two Blue Devils opened the 2016-17 indoor track and field season this past weekend, Dec. 2-3, at Southern Connecticut State University where they competed in the Elm City Challenge.

Making her collegiate debut at The Elm City Challenge, Rospierski cleared 1.60m (5' 3"), good for second place in the high jump. The height puts the freshman into a four-way tie for first place in the NEC.

On Saturday, Rospierski claimed fifth out of 12 participants in the Elm City Challenge Pentathlon totaling 2,900 points. She took first place in the 55 meter hurdles (8.59s), threw 8.15 meters in the shot put event, and leaped 4.61 meters (ninth place) in the long jump. In the fifth and final event, the 800 meter run, Rospierski finished in a time of 2:52.43 (10th place).

Latham lifted the lid off his junior season by producing the third-highest Heptathlon score (4,915) in NCAA Division I. Contesting The Elm City Challenge, the third-year Blue Devil's performance featured a pair of noteworthy marks in the jumps. Latham cleared 1.95m (6' 4.75") to take the Northeast Conference lead in the high jump. In the long jump, Latham leapt 6.55m  (21' 6") and occupies third place on the NEC leader board as a result. He also produced NEC Top 10 marks in the pole vault and the shot put.

The Central Connecticut men's and women's indoor track teams will resume action on Friday, Jan. 6 at the Wagner College Invitational which will take place at Ocean Breeze Park Track & Field Complex in Staten Island, N.Y.
