Women's Track and Field Wraps Up Mark Young Invitational
The CCSU women's track and field team competed at the Mark Young Invitational hosted by Yale University on Saturday in New Haven, CT.
The Central Connecticut women's outdoor track and field team competed at the Mark Young Invitational hosted by Yale on Saturday. The meet was held at the Dewitt Cuyler Athletic Complex in New Haven, CT. Senior Ally Gates recorded the best finish for the Blue Devils to lead the way at the meet with a second place finish in the women's 5,000 meter run.
OFFICIAL RESULTS
Freshman Alison Scott finished 13th for the Blue Devils in the 400 meter run on Saturday at Yale. The rookie turned in a time of 1:07.18 to record the result.
In the 800 meter run, senior Mara Lieberman and sophomore Brittany Mendelson finished inside the top-15 in the race. Lieberman registered a seventh place finish with a time of 2:17.70 and Mendelson ran 2:21.58 to finish 12th overall out of 30 competitors.
Mendelson followed up her performance in the 800 meter with a seventh place finish in the 1,500 meter run. The sophomore crossed the finish line with a time of 4:41.64 to finish seventh out of 49 athletes.
Gates grabbed a silver medal in the women's 5,000 meter run at the Mark Young Invitational. The veteran distance specialist finished with a time of 18:40.30 to pick up the second place finish.
A pair of freshmen finished in the top-five in the 400 meter hurdles for Central on Saturday. Sierra Nesmith claimed third in the event with a time of 1:04.99, while McKenna Kilian finished right behind her in fourth place with a time of 1:07.25.
Senior Ronea Saunders led the way for CCSU in the field events at the meet. Saunders finished third overall in the high jump after clearing 1.68 meters on her second attempt.
Megan Duplice registered a 12th place finish for the Blue Devils in the women's hammer throw. The senior tossed the hammer 28.58 meters to record the finish.
The CCSU women's track and field team will return to action next as some of the Blue Devils will travel to the Mt. SAC Relays in Norwalk, CA from April 14-16, while the rest head to the Minutemen Invitational on Saturday, April 16.
