Women's Track and Field Concludes CCSU Track & Field Invite
The CCSU women's track and field team finished fourth at the CCSU Track & Field Invite on Saturday hosted by the Blue Devils in New Britain, CT.
The Central Connecticut women's track and field team finished fourth out of eight teams at the CCSU Track & Field Invite held on Saturday afternoon in New Britain. The Blue Devils tallied 125.5 points to record the fourth place finish in their outdoor season opener which they hosted at the CCSU Track & Field Complex.

Junior Sherise Truman led the Blue Devils on the day with a pair of first place finishes. She first bested the field in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.96 before claiming gold in the 200 meter dash with a final time of 26.54. Her effort resulted in 20 combined points towards the Blue Devils team score over those two events.
Holy Cross won the women's side of the CCSU Track & Field Invite racking up 177 total points. Massachusetts finished second with 157.5 points followed by Sacred Heart with 153 points. Central was fourth with 125.5 points ahead of Hartford (48) and Fairfield (2) to round out the six Division I scoring teams at the meet.
OFFICIAL RESULTS
The Blue Devils finished runner-up in the 4x100 relay to open up the CCSU Track & Field Invite and earn eight points towards their team score. Freshmen Antonia Newman and Sierra Nesmith along with senior Ronea Saunders and Truman combined to finish with a time of 49.88 to record the result.
In the steeplechase senior Ally Gates crossed the finish line first for the Blue Devils in second place with a time of 11:58.96. Junior Jazmin Booker finished right behind her in third place with a time of 12:23.90 and the duo combined to earn 18 points for their team's score.
Sophomore Brittany Mendelson logged a sixth place finish in the women's mile run on Saturday. Mendelson crossed the finish line at the 5:11.35 mark to record the finish and pickup four points for her team.
Sarah Hicks and Nesmith posted top-10 finishes for the Blue Devils in the 100 meter hurdles. Hicks, a junior, finished runner-up with a time of 15.27 and Nesmith clocked in at the 16.47 mark for a seventh place overall finish.
In the 400 meter dash, junior Taylor Boncal posted a runner-up finish after crossing the fish line with a time of 59.75. The time earned the Blue Devils eight points toward their team score.
Senior Mara Lieberman cracked the top-five in the 800 meter run on Saturday. Lieberman powered her way to a time of 2:19.12 for the finish and six points for the team score.
A pair of Blue Devils logged top-five finishes in the 400 meter hurdles. Nesmith continued her successful day and finished runner-up with a time of 1:06.21 and freshman McKenna Kilian turned in a fifth place performance by crossing the finish line with a time of 1:07.61. Combined, the duo earned 12 points for the Blue Devils.
Sophomore Victoria Cronin paced three Blue Devils in the top-five of the 5,000 meter run at the CCSU Track & Field Invite. Cronin finished second with a time of 18:44.97, while freshmen Dawn Hubbell and Madeline Mondo finished fourth and fifth, respectively, with times of 18:56.48 and 18:57.50.
Saunders led the way in the field events for Central on Saturday with a first place finish in the high jump. The senior cleared 1.65 meter to best the field of nine high jumpers at the meet and earn her team 10 points.
In the pole vault, junior Amanda Kulas cleared 2.75 meters for a seventh place overall finish for the Blue Devils.
The CCSU women's track and field team will return to action next on Friday, April 8 at the Sam Howell Invitational noted by Princeton University.
