Mendelson Headlines Women's Track and Field All-NEC Awards
Brittany Mendelson was named the NEC Indoor Track and Field MVP and Most Outstanding Distance Performer to headline seven All-NEC selections for the Blue Devils.
Junior Brittany Mendelson was named the 2016 NEC Women's Indoor Most Valuable Performer and the Most Outstanding Track Performer (Distance) for the 2016 NEC indoor track and field season in a release by the league front office on Thursday. Mendelson's pair of major conference awards headlined seven All-NEC selections for the Blue Devils, who finished third at this year's NEC Indoor Track and Field Championships. The Blue Devils had three representatives named to the All-NEC First Team, one All-NEC Second Team selection and three on the NEC All-Rookie Team.
Mendelson picked up a pair of first place finishes at the indoor championships in the women's mile and the 3,000 meter run en route to earning All-NEC First Team accolades in each event. The CCSU Distance Medley Relay Team also grabbed gold at the championship meet to garner an All-NEC First Team nod.
Freshman Sierra Nesmith was the lone Blue Devil on the All-NEC Second Team. The rookie recorded a second place finish in the triple jump to earn a spot on the second team.
The NEC All-Rookie Team featured Nesmith (triple jump), Samantha Hartmayer (500m) and Cecelia Blamahsah (high jump) as they were the highest placing freshman in each of their respective events.
