Truman Matches School-Record, Women's Track Competes at David Hemery Valentine Invitational
Sherise Truman matches school-record in 200 meter dash for the Blue Devils at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational on Friday.
The Central Connecticut women's track and field team competed at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University inside the BU Track and Tennis Center on Friday. Junior Sherise Truman led the way as she matched her school-record in the 200 meter dash with a time of 25.31.
The time earned Truman a 42nd place overall finish out of 239 runners and qualified her to compete in the event at the New England Championships in late February. She currently ranks tied for 29th on the NEICAAA performance list.
Several Blue Devils also set new season and personal bests on the day. Junior Brittany Mendelson clocked in a season-best 5:02.33 in the mile run to finish 48th out of 246 and qualify for the New England Championships. Her season-best time places her 71st overall in the mile on the NEICAAA performance list.
Freshman Sierra Nesmith ran a personal-best of 58.60 in the 400 meter dash en route to qulifying for the New England Championships. She currently sits in 55th on the NEICAAA performance list. Sophomore Taylor Boncal also ran in the 400 meter dash for the Blue Devils and recorded a new personal-best time of 59.18.
Junior Jazmin Booker crossed the finish line in 2:24.98 in the 800 meter dash.
Freshmen Samantha Hartmayer (1:18.96) and McKenna Kilian (1:19.59) both turned in new personal-bests in the women's 500 meter dash for CCSU. Hartmayer registered a 24th place finish while Kilian finished right behind her in 27th.
Freshman Cecelia Blamahsah finished with a clearance of 1.55 meters in the high jump, just .01 meters below her collegiate-best clearance. The height earned her a tied for 12th place finish in the event.
Senior Chelse Terry led the way for CCSU in the throwing events, recording a pair of top-20 finishes in both the shot put and the weight throw. In the weight throw, Terry registered a 15th place finish with a distance of 15.13 meters and in the shot put Terry picked up a 19th place finish after launcing the shot put to 11.46 meters.
The CCSU women's track and field team will return to action next with the 2016 NEC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb 19-20. For the first time in NEC history, the NEC Championships will be held at the Ocean Breeze Complex in Staten Island, NY.
