Women's Track & Field Tied 16th at NEICAAAs
Junior Ronea Saunders earned a silver medal for CCSU in the final day of the New England Track & Field Championships.
The Central Connecticut women's track and field team completed competition at the 2014 New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday tied for 16th out of 39 teams. The Blue Devils were led by junior Ronea Saunders who earned a team-high eight points with her silver medal performance in the high jump.
Saunders cleared a height of 1.75 meters in the high jump Saturday, finishing second out of 23 jumpers.
Also helping lead CCSU was senior Shelby Tuttle who tallied seven points over two events. After finishing fifth in Friday's prelims, Tuttle crossed the finish line sixth in the 100m hurdles with her time of 14.92 seconds. She also competed in the 400m hurdles, coming in fifth with her time of 1:03.64.
Tuttle was followed in the 400m hurdles by sophomore Alyssa Gonzalez who placed sixth in a time of 1:03.67.
Central posted four more performances in the top 15. The CCSU 4x100m relay squad finished 10th overall in 47.93 seconds, sophomore Chelse Terry claimed 11th in the discus (37.90m), freshman Brittany Mendelson took 12th in the 1,500m run (4:40.75) and sophomore Ally Gates finished 14th in the 3,000m steeplechase (11:15.89).
Junior Taylor LePage also competed for CCSU on Saturday, finishing the 800m run in a time of 2:17.56 for 19th in a field of 30 runners.
