Saunders Set to Compete at NCAA Prelims
Ronea Saunders will compete in the high jump Friday at 5 p.m.
Freshman jumper Ronea Saunders will represent the Central Connecticut women's track & field team on Friday at the NCAA Eastern Preliminary meet. Saunders will compete in the high jump at 5 p.m. along side the eastern region's top collegiate high jumpers.
This weekend's meet will be held at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, FL from May 24th to May 26th. The top 48 high jumpers in the eastern region qualify for the eastern preliminary round. Only the top 12 finishers in the event will advance to the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, IA this June.
Saunder's qualified for the NCAA Eastern Preliminary round at this year's Northeast Conference Championships at the beginning of May. She leaped to an impressive 1.75 (5'8.75") height at the meet breaking the NEC meet record as well as the CCSU school record for the high jump. She claimed the meet's Most Outstanding Rookie award as well as sealing the high jump individual championship. Saunders enters Friday's preliminary round as the 42nd seed.
