Swimming and Diving Takes Second at NEC Championships; King Named Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet

The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team closed out the 2022 Northeast Conference Championships by winning two golds and a pair of silvers on Saturday at the Spire Institute in Geneva, OH. The Blue Devils also finished second in the overall team standings.

Junior Jeannette King was named the Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet. She won her second individual gold of the weekend, while also helping the Blue Devils win their third relay of the championships setting a meet record time on Saturday.

Head coach Bill Ball and his staff were also recognized as the Coaching Staff of the Year at the post-meet awards ceremony.

Bryant won the overall team championship with 746 points, edging out CCSU which finished with 721 points.

KEY PERFORMANCES (Day 5)

• 1650 Free – Freshman Abbey Keane placed fifth in the night's first even, clocking a time of 17:27.31.
• 100 Free – Junior Jeannette King won with a time of 49.83, while classmates Katie Czulewicz (51.39) and Simona Visinski (51.54) came in third and fourth, respectively, in the championship final.
• 200 Back – Freshmen Nathalie Pena (2:05.64) and Ashley Calderon (2:05.84) scored points in the consolation final.
• 200 Breast – Junior Alex Lindgren clocked a 2:18.20 and earned the silver, while sophomore Abby Bacon (2:23.67) placed seventh in the championship final.
• 3m Diving – Freshman Zoe Baker won silver with a score of 22975, while freshman Elyse Boothroyd (172.30) and senior Rachel Pinsky (178.45) also scored in the championship and consolation finals, respectively.
• 400 Free Relay – The Blue Devils set a meet record with a time of 3:23.09. Welcome, King, Czulewicz and Visinski won the final race of the night by nearly four seconds.
