Swimming and Diving Drops Dual Meet at Rhode Island on Sunday
Blue Devils now prepare for the NEC Championships on Feb. 13
The Central Connecticut swimming and diving team dropped a 169-130 dual meet decision on the road at Rhode Island on Sunday. The Blue Devils completed a busy weekend, also topping LIU Brooklyn at home on Saturday on Senior Day. Central now turns its attention to the Northeast Conference Championships beginning on Wednesday night, February 13. The Blue Devils have won three of the last four NEC titles.
The Blue Devils finished second and third in the 200 yard medley relay to open the meet. The team of senior Kaitlyn Troy, freshman Mariana Espino, sophomore Katelyn Mann and freshman Jeannette King swam a time of 1:50.14 to finish in second place. The squad of junior Alexis Fredricks, junior Gracie Regan, junior Valentina Gomez and freshman Destiny Johnson were third in 1:51.15.
Regan placed third in the 1,000 yard freestyle with a time of 10:51.33. Senior Aidan Devers was fourth in 10:53.73.
Freshman Simona Visinski finished second in the 200 ard freestyle with a time of 1:58.41. Classmate Katie Czulewicz was third in 1:58.80 and junior Grace Fredricks was fifth in 1:59.88.
King won the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 58.73 while Alexis Fredricks was second in 59.25 and Troy finished third in 1:00.74.
Espino finished second in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.52 while Mann was fourth (1:09.18) and freshman Alez Kindgren was fifth in 1:10.73.
Gomez placed first in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:10.25. Visinski finished third in the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.32. Johnson was fourth in 25.47.
Junior Lauren Wilcox led the CCSU divers in the 1 meter diving event with a score of 136.28.
Visinski finished second in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.26. King was third in 54.43 and junior Erika Maercklein was fourth in 54.55.
Alexis Fredricks won the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:05.21, followed by Devers in second (2:07.03) and freshman Hallie Perrin in third (2:12.19). Lindgren placed third in the 200 yard breaststroke for the Blue Devils with a time of 2:28.16.
Maercklein won the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:11.59. Grace Fredricks was fifth in 5:24.74.
Gomez earned her second victory of the day with a win in the 100 butterfly in 59.18. Mann was fourth in 1:01.47 and sophomore Erin Brown was sixth in 1:06.13.
Sophomore Reagan Kenney paced CCSU in the 3 meter diving event with a score of 1:40.25.
Gomez finished second in the 200 yard IM in 2:13.85, while Alexis Fredricks was third in 2:14.89.
The team o f Czulewicz, Troy, King and Visinski won the 400 yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:36.37.
