Swimming and Diving Competes at Wagner vs. Seahawks and Bryant on Friday and Saturday
Blue Devils earn nine first place finishes in weekend tri-meet
The Central Connecticut women's swimming and diving team traveled to Wagner to face the Seahawks and Bryant at the Seahawks Invite on Friday night and Saturday morning. The Blue Devils dropped a 217-134 decision to the host Seahawks while falling 204-147 to Bryant.
Despite the losses the Blue Devils claimed victory in nine events over the weekend. The Blue Devils opened the weekend with a third place finish in the 200 medley relay on Friday night. Junior Katelyn Troy, sophomore Erika Maercklein, senior Lauren Czulewicz and senior Maddy Garber swam a time of 1:40.40.
Czulewicz then finished fourth in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.91.
Junior Aidan Devers swam a time of 58.43 to win the 100 yard backstroke. Garber then went on to win the 100 yard breaststroke in a time of 1:05.42 while Maercklein was second in 1:07.24. Sophomore Grace Regan was fifth in 1:07.68.
Sophomore Valentina Gomez won the 200 yard butterfly in a time of 2:06.22, winning by more than four seconds over the second place finisher. Troy then finished sixth in the 50 yard freestyle in a time of 25.28.
Gomez won the mile (1650 freestyle) with a time of 17:43.63. The Blue Devils finished Friday night with a win in the 400 yard medley relay. Devers, Garber, Gomez and Czulewicz swam 3:55.22 for the victory.
On Saturday Central was third in the 200 medley relay as Troy, Maercklein, Gomez and Czulewicz swam a time of 1:50.58.
Devers then finished second in the 400 yard IM with a time of 4:39.59. Czulewicz was fifth in the 100 free with a time of 54.58.
Devers won the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:06.12. Gomez posted another win, this time in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 58.42.
It was Devers again in the 500 freestyle, winning with a time of 5:10.99. Garber followed with a win in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:23.68.
