Garber Sets New School and Conference Record in 200 Breast at NCAA Championships

Junior Maddy Garber, the 2017 Northeast Conference Swimmer of the Meet at the NEC Championships last month, set a new Central Connecticut and NEC Record with a time of 2:13.12 in the 200 breaststroke on Saturday morning.  She also competed in the 100 breaststroke on Friday, finishing in 28th place overall.

"I couldn't be more proud of the way Maddy competed and represented herself this weekend," Head Coach Bill Ball said.  "She was a tremendous ambassador for the NEC, CCSU and her team in front of a national audience.  She set a new personal best and school and league record in the 200, while also posting a tremendous time in the 100 on Friday.  She competed with class and her effort was outstanding.  This is a great weekend for our program."

SATURDAY

Garber swam a lifetime best and set a new school and NEC record with a time of 2:13.12 in the 200 breaststroke in the preliminaries of the NCAA Championships on Saturday morning.  Garber, who holds the school and league marks in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke, finished 53rd overall in the 200 breast on Saturday.

Garber's time of 1:00.53 marked the second time in her career that she has swam the event in under 1:01.00.  It was just off her school and conference record of 1:00.01 that she swam in February.  Her time was good for a third place finish in her heat on Friday, and 28th place overall.

She was the first CCSU swimmer to advance to the NCAA Championships since Jamie Crowley participated in 2005 and 2006.  Hall of Famer Tammie Repass also competed in the NCAA's for the Blue Devils in 2002.
